NEW PRODUCT RANGE FROM M.S.S. THE BRIGHTON RUNNERS

In 1895, The influential journal The Engineer decided to run a competition to find a British Made mechanically propelled road carriage that could be driven by any power other than muscle and able to cover a distance of two hundred miles from London to Birmingham and back. Due to delays and disagreements the route was changed to London to Brighton following the success of the Motor Car Club run. The Engineer was offering a prize of 1000 guineas and originally received seventy two entries but only five vehicles appeared. The most highly praised at the time was the steam van entry of the Liquid Fuel Engineering Company, of which The Engineer wrote " the steam van was beautifully made and the workmanship was superb". MSS, the Model Steam Specialist, aim to emulate this success story and its first steam van will appear on the market by the 5th July’05, to coincide with the original announcement date by The Engineer some 110 years ago. The press and retail sector will be informed of the production dates of the remaining three vehicles in the range. Of the initial production the first 110 will be produced to a special high specification followed by the standard range and will be sold strictly on a first come basis at the standard production price. The specification of the first 110 vans will include bonnet trim, roof rack, double acting cylinder, forward/reverse control, diecast wheels and certificate. The models will be built in approximately 1:12 scale, 12"long x 8"high x 5" wide, comes complete in a box.
